The Deep King

Attempted Regicide

• combat begins
• Ront and Cynlant rush the towards the throne
• Multiple energies swirl around Cynlant’s sword as he bloodies the succubus with a strike
• As is in her beguiling nature, the succubus orders Ront to strike at Cynlant
  • he manages to glare off her fiendish suggestion
• She flies off, on the nearing the edge of death as Cynlant and Ront knick her
• Oneshoe blasts the succubus solidly with eldritch blast, knocking her out of the sky
• two duergar run off two retrieve a healer for the king
• The Deep King calls another hammer flying towards, before he teleports behind Bon
  • The Deep King strikes Bon twice, with his second hit sending him through the Nine Hells
• A confused Ront charges and attempts to strike the king
  • he hits once, with a critical hit being softened by the kings glistening adamantine armor
  • the king retaliates, striking at Ront and a duergar captain
  • the duergar ignites, and crumples into a dead pile
• Droopy moves towards the king, with his sword casting a brilliant light
  • the king begins to squint
• Oneshoe attempts to cast hold person on the deep king, but he shrugs it off
• Yvelia commands the king to THROW and hits him with an eldritch blast
  • he throws his returning hammer twice, striking down another duergar
• The king turns, and hammers down another of his personal guard
• Suddenly, Bon returns to the material plane, slightly signed and reeking of brimstone
• Ront struggles but manages to grapple the king
  • as he attempts to punch, the deep king headbutts Ront’s fist
• Cynlant commands the king to DROP
• The Deep King shrugs off Oneshoe’s spells
• Soon after, the Deep King drops both of his weapons
  • Droopy swoops in, stealing both of the king’s weapons off of the ground
  • Upon picking up the hammer, Droopy begins to hear angry words in infernal
• Bon heats the king’s armor, barely hurting him
• Ront continues to strike at the deep king within his arms
• Cynlant moves towards Droopy to cast remove curse on the hammer
  • he detects only strong magic on it
• Oneshoe casts dissonant whispers on the king, whispering:
  • that woman was not real
• Droopy hands the king’s hammer Cynlant, and makes ranged strikes against the king
• the Duergar guards attempt to strike their King, but all of their attacks whiff or glance aimlessly off of his armor
• Yvelia commands the king to GROVEL, and blasts him with eldritch energy
• Bon continues to heat the kings armor, very slightly roasting him
• While holding him in his grasp, Ront continues to pummel the King
• Cynlant notices the king seems to be driven mad, and realizes he needs a greater restoration or stronger
  • he does the best he can in the moment, and strikes him with his weapon
• Oneshoe viciously mocks the king
  • “You can’t event tell your own kind from a devil!”
  • He doesn’t seem to react
• Once again Yvelia commands the king to Halt, he looks like he is going to shrug it off
  • Oneshoe magically distracts the King with silvery barbs, but he continues to ignore the command
• The King attempts to pull his throwing hammer back, but Droopy struggles and successfully holds it
  • he wrestles Ront, attempting to break the grapple but fails to break free
• Bon successfully manacles the King, who was too busy fighting Ront to stop him
• Cynlant pulls out a keepsake coin, it glows as he uses Wish to cast greater restoration
• the King begins to protests that he is free from foreign influence

Freedom from Fiendish Influences

• the King demands his manacles be removed
  • A still scared Bon, tosses Ront the key
• the King calls his thrown hammer back to him
  • he asks for his Hammer back
• Cynlant questions his demand, and asks him about the hammer
  • the guards mention that the advisor Shalh has been in the King’s court for many years
    • they are unsure if she was always a succubus
  • the king retorts by saying it was presented to him many decades ago and the soul within the hammer is a fiend who betrayed Asmodeus
• Oneshoe propositions the King to join the party in interrogating the dead spirit of the succubus
• Cynlant begins to hand the hammer to the King, but doesn’t fully let go
  • he looks angry as Cynlant informs him it is just a precaution
  • Cynlant eventually releases his grasp, then places his hand on the King and begins to heal him
• the King begins to apologize to Bon
  • Bon wildshapes into his chalice form and heals the King
• Oneshoe begins to ask the King about being charmed by the succubus
  • the king had been compelled for 3-6 months
  • he recalls every moment
• the party begins to brainstorm questions for the succubus
  1. Where is the real Shalh?
  2. Who is she working for?
  3. What her plans were?
  4. How many deceitful comrades does she have?
• Bon conjures a purple crystal from his pack, as green tendrils of necromantic magic wriggle over the succubus’ corpse
  • her eyes open as she raspily gasps
• the deep king interrogates her
  • who she is working for
    • “The two face once”
  • what are his plans
    • “I merely follow his orders”
  • Where is the real Shalh?
    • “At the bottom of the dark lake”
  • how many comrades does she have
    • “More than you can count”
  • who else of power has been replaced or influenced
    • “Assistants of those in charge Menzoberranzan, Blingdenstone, and every other city of influence”
• the magic begins to fade from the corpse with the last response
  • neither Bon nor Oneshoe can tell if the corpse was telling the truth
• the boyscouts and bon dismember the corpse, removing its wings and her head
• the party requests guns and ammo sent to their lodgings
  • he acquiesces to their request
• Oneshoe speaks out “Mr King” and tries to convince the king to provide potions of greater restoration
• the party begins to take their leave, but before they go the king orders his guard to provide the party with badges of his favor
• they thank him, then begin to take their leave

Closing Time

• the party returns to the inn to recuperate
• afterwards, the party begins to make their way to the whorlstone caves
  • with their badges proudly displayed the, bon drunkenly struts his stuff
• none of the guards seem to protest the party’s presence due to their high status badges
• as they enter the cleft, they hide their badges

Whorlstone Caves

• while the party makes their way towards the meeting spot for the verras rat, they pick some mushrooms
• the two duergar from earlier, return with a squirming pouch
  • oneshoe hands over the 50gp, and begins to extremely verbosely thank them
  • they groan, start walking away, and turn invisible
• an invisible Yl-lib cuts open the pouch and eats the rat
• Oneshoe continues to demand that she’s not crazy
• The disembodied voice of Yl-lib speaks into the rest of the party members minds
  • it sounds eerily similar to oneshoe, but more sane
• a distraught Yvelia tells Cynlant that Oneshoe and Bon have been wearing off on her
• Bon retorts “I’m not crazy you’re crazy!”

Return to the Inn

• the party makes their way back to the inn
• they contemplate their travel to Neverlight Grove
• a duergar from the keeper of the flames arrives with their reward
  • 3000gp
  • jade spider figurine
• after a while, the kings guards arrive and deliver multiple chests
  • 4 chests, some of them sound heavy
    • 1000pp
    • 6 nicely arranged flintlock pistols (2d8)
    • 100 pistol munitions
    • a +2 dwarves thrower
      • can only be used by a creature with the deep king’s badge
      • can be used without attunement with the badge

Last Shopping Trip

• Yvelia purchases rations at the market
• Oneshoe attempts to be a gnome test subject for the alchemist, but she has no potions left for him
