  • they were performing a ritual in an attempt to mutate the dragon to please the demigorgon

Obelisk

• the obelisk is made of a dark rock
• chunks have been carved off from it
• one of the lumps from droki’s bag looks like the stone from the obelisk
• oneshoe scales the obelisk
• the group tries investigate the obelisk
  • they are not magically inclined enough to know
• the party continues to look at the obelisk (and roll very badly)
  • oneshoe realizes that the obelisk requires magic to be expended on it (a spell slot)
• the group schemes what to do with the egg
  • they decide to hide it and return later
• yvelia molds the earth and buries the egg in a dirt mound

The Return

• the group begins to backtrack through the cavern
• two flumps appear with undulating tentacles, they make their way without noticing the group
• yvelia and cynlant via eldritch knowledge about flumps
  • they congregate around strong areas of psychic energy
• they decide to not follow their path and slip off through a small crack
• bon wildshapes while ront, cynlant, and yvelia eat pygmy mushrooms
  • oneshoe is already fun sized
• carrion crawlers devour dead bodies
  • the party skirts around them and are not bothered
• the party makes it to the cave entrance
• the boyscouts go into oneshoe’s leg, bon stays wildshaped as a cat and sits on oneshoe’s shoulder with Yl-lib

The Cleft

• yvelia sneezes really loudly as the group leaves the caves
• the derro begin to chase oneshoe and yvelia
• the boyscouts begin artillery handing oneshoe ball bearings, it slows down the pursuants
• yvelia casts minor illusion, it causes two of them to peel off
• just before they make it to the gate, one derro shoots and hits yvelia
• the guards stop the derro and start asking questions
  • after a quick badge flash they are on their way
• before they make it out, cynlant pulls a card from the deck of minor inconveniences
  • cynlant draws the dragon, it grants him evocation sorcerer cantrip
• the rest of the journey back to the inn is uneventful

The Inn

• jimjar bet the other motley crew members that the group would return
• soon after entering, cynlant has eldeth cast lesser restoration on droopy
• he slowly opens his eyes, confused
  • cynlant begins to spin him in the air
• joaquin hass multiple messages for the party
• the initial quest for the surface is done, supplemental work will yield supplemental pay
• a stone giant “Dorhund” came, looking for the group
  • stonespeaker higraan wishes to speak with the group

Reconvening

• oneshoe info dumps to the motley crew
• she also threatens them, that betrayal will earn them the same fate as buppido
• the egg likely belongs to the keeper of the flame
• partyrew plans on shopping and gathering information while they wait for the meeting later in the day

Relaxation and Shopping

• cynalnt begins to read the dwarvish notes after selling some equipment
• oneshoe returns to the potion shop
• bon cultivates mushrooms

Potion Shop

• oneshoe offers to be a living subject for any of the alchemists experiments
• she tells the tiefling about the bigwig and pygmy mushrooms
• the owner offers potions or recipes for the mushrooms

The Shattered Spire

• the group orders drinks while waiting for werz, the duergar they saved to arrive
• he thanks bon and oneshoe, after they apologize for their prior tardiness
• they ask what he was doing, upon which he begins shifting and answers “fishing”
  • bon detects that he’s clearly lying
• Werz offers a job, the elimination of the Empty Scabbards
  • in exchange for the aiding him, he will provide
    1. immediate information on the city
    2. empty spell gems
• Werz informs them over a whisper that he is a smuggler by trade
• suggests the group begins by finding Droki, he works with the grey ghosts
• oneshoe asks if he knows how some derro are obtaining surface goods
  • he does not know
• Werz shares more tea
  • the king has prevented Clan Ironhead from making weapon sales without explicit approval
  • he could acquire a duegar gun for oneshoe, but at a price
  • the grey ghosts is a mix of duegar and derro, and they are read by 3 (now 2) derro
• he offers two more passes for the rest of the group
• everyone says their goodbyes and heads back to the inn

At the Inn again

Night Time

• the partyrew begins to long rest
• Yvelia communes with Mr. F
  • after their usual pleasantries, Yvelia asks for information on the obelisk
  • Yvelia makes a deal with mr. f, at the cost of her not calling upon him (no warlock spells) and 125gp, he will provides information on the obelisk
  • it is at least 5000 years old
• the netherese arcanists produced copies of the original obelisks
• they contain a wide swath of magical power, time travel summoning of powerful beings
• one of the few surviving relics of the netherese empire
• Yvelia asks about strengthening their evolving weapon
  • Mr. F promises it will happen, in due time

The Next Morning

• the partyrew begins preparing for the next day
• heavy foot steps are outside the inn, a stone giant approaches!
• the partyrew exits the inn to speak with Dorhund
• he thanks the group for helping with Nivram’s return
• the stones speak well of the party, and the stonespeaker wishes to personally thank the partyrew

Meeting with the Stonespeaker

Travel

• Dorhund guides the party, easily persuading the guards to let everyone through
• a large, well fortified building looms
  • it is the business place of the deep king

Stone Giant District’s

• according to Dorhund, Nivram is still paranoid but is recovering
• Nivram is watching over the stone’s nephew, Rehund
  • Rehund was another stone giant whose name was on a statue
• the stonespeaker is tending to an unconscious stone giant
• a second cancerous head is beginning to grow out of the incapacitated stone giant, Rehund
• Higraan thanks the partyrew for returning Nivram safely
  • unfortunately, Rehund went on a rampage the day prior
• cynlant inquires about their magical ability
  • they have runic magic but not full arcane abilities
• Higraan says the stones of spoke of misdeeds happening
  • the stones cried in pain and horror

Something evil stirs in the Underdark. The rock itself cries in pain and horror, and a madness creeps from the blackest depths. Pay heed to the signs surrounding you. A cave with two faces. Rock devoured, and the land overgrown. The pebble believes itself flesh. The earth rejects its wards, and the tunnels shake in fury. By these portents, you shall know of evil’s presence and of evil’s face. This is what the stones tell me.

Higraan

• cynlant informs the stonespeaker of droki’s theft and the evil rituals
• he also requests a meeting with the deep king
  • cynlant convinces the stonespeaker to petition the king for an audience
• Nivram greets the partyrew, and taps onshoe with a single finger
• cynlant offers to have droopy attempt to heal Nivram
  • droopy casts lesser restoration on Nivram
• after a few blinks, Nivram feels better
• Higraan gifts the partyrew a stonespeaker crystal
  • shroomed out bon takes it
• yvelia asks roughly how strong a stonegiant is
  • they’re not strong enough to carry the obelisk
• bon asks the stonespeaker if he knows anything about the empty scabbards
